WARNING: A recent report by ECANZ (Electrical Contractor Association of NZ) following media and government concern regarding poor or non compliant installations of heat pumps states "... as many as 90% of heat pump installations are technically non-compliant". In a recent TV broadcast it was suggested that 10% of installations could be electrically unsafe!

DON'T TAKE A RISK: Even if your heat pump installation is "safe" you may not be getting the full efficiency or power savings from it if the installer did not follow the manufacturer's instructions fully and we have seen from above that the majority of installers like to be in and out as fast as possible and cut many corners. It takes time and costs to connect nitrogen through the copper pipes while brazing, but not doing this leaves residue on the insides of the pipes which will reduce effectiveness and the life span of your compressor. Also pumping down the pipes or "evacuating" is a timely process but must be done carefully and precisely to achieve the rated efficiency of your heat pump. A lot of installers do not do this. Instead they "purge" the system which leaks refrigerant into the atmosphere. No manufacturers condone this process but many installers do it.

Anyway, enough negative talk. The great news is that at HINES we follow all the rules and manufacturer's recommendations so that your heat pump will be installed perfectly. It may take us a little longer but you will achieve the best possible efficiencies from your investment.
